Carlos A. Coelho
Carlos Manuel Agra Coelho is Full Professor at the Mathematics Department of Faculdade de Ciencias e Tecnologia of Universidade Nova de Lisboa and Research Chair in Computational and Methodological Statistics of University of Pretoria. He is also an Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute since 2013 – sponsors were Professors C. R. Rao from Penn State University, Feridun Turkman from the University of Lisbon and Evdokia Xekalaki from the University of Athens.

Main research area: Distribution Theory, Inference, Hypotheses testing (with applications in Multivariate Analysis, namely in tests for mean and covariance structures, and in testing error covariance structures for Generalized Mixed Models)

Other research area of interest: Statistical applications to issues in Data Protection and Data Confidentialitty: This is an area which has recently caught the attention of Carlos A. Coelho, as a consequence of joint work with Professor Bimal Sinha from the Mathematics and Statistics Department of the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), who is co-advising (together with Carlos A. Coelho) Ricardo Moura, a Ph.D. student from the Doctoral Program in Statistics and Risk Management at FCT/UNL to whom a 10 month Fulbright Research Grant was awarded during the school year 2014/2015 in order to carry out research work at UMBC; a joint paper is being submitted and a second one is being prepared in this area.
